Any business owner will tell you that it takes customers to keep the doors open. Without a buyer to keep the seller in business, the office has to shut down. It seems that perhaps the Christian world has forgotten this simple truth. If we are to end the business of selling sin, we must stop buying sin.

In Luke chapter nineteen, Jesus entered into Jerusalem and wept over the city. He spoke of the blindness that was even now upon the nation. It stirred his heart to great grief, for they had lost all sense of holiness and righteousness. Is it any wonder that His wrath exploded upon the moneychangers within the temple?

Scripture records it like this:

“And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought; Saying unto them, It is written, MY HOUSE IS THE HOUSE OF PRAYER: but ye have made it a DEN OF THIEVES,” (Luke 19:45,46).

Now we see in our mind’s eye the terror that must have come upon these wicked moneychangers as the Lord of Lord’s flipped their tables and overturned their seats (Matt. 21:12). Can you not see money and valuables scattered across the stone and the dirt yet left behind as men fled the wrath of an angry God?

He was but a man, and they were many. Yet they ran. They ran as will every wicked unbeliever when the wrath of judgment comes upon them. But for many it will be too late. For many, the judgment will be permanent.

Blessed is the man that comes to see his own sinfulness while yet alive in this world, for he may yet become a son of the living God.

Look again at that brief exchange within the temple. It was not only the moneychangers with whom Jesus dealt. No, rather there was a second group of people who also were cast our of our Father’s house, a group who’s wickedness was less obvious to the casual observer. Yet Jesus saw the fault of both parties.

Study the scripture. See closely how Jesus cast out not only the moneychangers but also those that bought from them. Do not think that you can patronize those who make business of sin and remain free of God’s wrath. If you do not come out from among them, you will be cast out with them. Though we may slip and slide, there is no compromise with evil. We must fight it with all our heart, mind, body, and soul just as we must love our God in the same manner of absolute commitment.

I do not say that we are perfect. For sins we do commit, and those sometimes quite often. Yet think hard and long before you live in willful conformity to the ways of this world. Do your God honor in all things, else question the heart within that cannot grasp what I have written.
