Christian Principles: Who Will Stand In The Gap For A Suffering America
There is great suffering in America.
The land is dirty, fouled with wicked deeds and perverted thoughts. The souls of the people are polluted; hearts and minds are turned from the truths of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Each day, the nation as a whole descends into a deeper pit of defiance. Evil people promote videos of Girls Gone Wild, and even the parents seem barely troubled by such behavior. The court systems are bogged down from boys in gangs. Custom designed tattoos mark the flesh of preteens as a sign of membership and acceptance into an angry lifestyle.
Why is it so? How can a nation that was founded upon the principles of truth and justice become so distorted in nature?
We are spoken of in scripture. No. Not as America by name but rather as a wicked nation that is identified by the character of its people. The prophet Ezekiel tells us about it. He addresses the sins of Jerusalem, but the judgment stands against any nation that has ever professed a living faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Ezekiel writes about preachers that are in it for the money, spiritual teachers who devour the souls of their followers, and who have no respect for that which is holy. He then swings the guns around and bears down on the politicians, and leaders, and kings of this world. He speaks of oppression, and wicked laws, and of wolfs that ravage the poor. The very God of creation, through the pen of this great prophet, declares the need for a man to stand in the Gap. It is recorded in this manner:
“And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation. There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain. And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken. The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully. And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none,” (Ezekiel 22:23-30).
Perhaps you do not see the relationship. Your world is always green, your sky always blue. Or it is the president who causes all the problems. Then you are blinded by the ruler of this world. The leaders are but a reflection of the minds of the people. You wanted prayer out of school. You got it. So the sex and the knives and the drugs move in. You wanted God and prayer removed from government. You got it. Now the adulteresses the homosexuals and the thieves rule your goods.
In the paper we see politicians making great issue out of a leader who briefly loss his temper. What hypocrites they are, to pretend and to run their mouth as though they have never stumbled. You want a standard; don’t make it the leaders who seek political gain from another man’s mistakes. They think the nation needs perfection in the flesh rather than a healing of the people’s heart. They too are blinded by the ruler of this world.
God spoke to Ezekiel. The words recorded above are not from a man but from the LORD. The anger in his voice cannot be denied. Wicked preachers, crooked leaders, proud people, and a nation that has used oppression to rob and vex the needy will not be permitted to remain as it is. Pretend to be right by your own might if you choose, but in the final judgment it shall be as is written:
“Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD,” (Ezekiel 22:31).
Are you feeling in despair? Does talk of gloom and doom make you uncomfortable? It should.
We are on the verge of a great judgment against this nation. Turn your head if you so desire. Watch as your daughters become just another girl gone wild. Weep as your gang member sons die behind bars. Ignore the truth as though you, like the finger-pointing politicians, are immune from the filth.
Or,
See the writing on the wall. Be one who will stand in the gap. Not as though we are better than others, but rather as though we are taught in a better way of responding. If someone you know slips in a moment of anger, kneel down and pray for them. If your neighbor is trapped in that world of wicked living, speak conviction in kindness that they may perhaps recognize the error of their ways.
All of the money, the power, and the works of good people that is available to this nation can not put an end to the suffering, the hunger, the cold, or the broken hearted parents. Give all that you can. Help as many as you may touch. But know that the root of evil will not be stamped out by more legalism and a stronger government hand. Neither will it be removed by that which aids the flesh but leaves the heart unchanged.
Stand for what is scripturally right. Kneel for power. Pray a hedge around your home and your sons and your daughters. Lift up the name of Christ Jesus and speak the written words of God as you go into your homes and as you leave them and as you rise up and as you sit down. Stop accepting wickedness into your mind and heart.
America is suffering a defeat of the soul. Will you rise up to stand in the gap?
